I wish you could be there to experience one of the Christmas parties with MYC middle - or high school students. I started to say “see”, but if you couldn’t hear it, you’d be missing out on a big part of the party.
It’s LOUD!
Most of the time, we try to keep things fairly organized and reasonably calm. But, that’s just not very practical during one of our Christmas parties.
We play Dirty Santa.
Have you ever played that?
We encourage our kids to steal each other’s Christmas presents!
And, so, it gets LOUD.
But the real noise comes when somebody opens a pair of socks, or something else that the group thinks is funny.
Anyway, the point I’m trying to make is that we have a whole lot of fun. And all these “at-risk” kids sit around for about an hour, stealing, sharing, laughing, and making some really good memories.
Aren’t they supposed to be fighting? Disrespectful? Angry?
Hmm. . .maybe this long term relationship thing, this praying thing, this loving thing – maybe it really works. . .
